Final Thoughts
This is a tough one to swallow. After a brutal start, Buffalo took control of the game. The 4th line had a great shift to get them on the board, and Dahlin buried a nifty feed from Power to equalize the game. They were generating most of the chances and it felt like they it was just a matter of time until they grabbed the lead. They thought they had before a play was ruled dead before the puck crossed the line. Once the game went into overtime, the game reset and became an even battle. Montreal had most of the chances off the hop, but Buffalo countered with some great opportunities of their own. Poor decision making at the offensive blue line ultimately led to the series clinching goal for Montreal on Newhook’s wrist shot. As much as this sucks, this team has a lot to be proud of. They dug themselves out of the early hole by chipping away and battling back. They were right there, and the future is extremely bright as long as they don’t remain complacent. A wild ride ends with heartbreak, but this is a team Sabres fans can be proud of.
