Final Thoughts

This was a painful game to watch. There was no flow. Every positive action had an equal and opposite reaction. The number of penalties grinded the game to a halt. Whenever the Sabres started to gain momentum, they either took a penalty or surrendered another goal against. The brief moments of hope were quickly extinguished. Greenway has no business being on the first line. The coaching staff has admitted he’s struggled to return to full health, but thought it was a good idea to stick him with top 6 minutes in a game they needed to win. He was consistently behind the play and hurt the team multiple times. His lack of stick awareness turned a penalty kill into a 5 on 3 stiuation that Calgary wasted no time in cashing in on. His offsides cost Thompson his second goal. Meanwhile, when Buffalo needed a save UPL couldn’t step up. If Ostlund has to go to Rochester to continue the 3-goalie shuffle, can we at least see some average goaltending? Otherwise, it just looks as though management deliberately made the team worse just so the GM doesn’t have to decide which of his three mediocre goalies should be moved. The only positive here is Buffalo has a habit of rebounding against better teams. Their chance comes tonight against Edmonton.
