With the gift-giving season approaching, which obscure Sabre’s jersey would you want to receive as a present?
My answer is the same answer I give to every question about obscure Sabres: David Moravec. In case you blinked and missed his NHL career, he was an 8th round draft pick out of Czechia in 1998. He came to camp the following year and, due to injuries, won a spot on the opening night roster and played the first game (and got more ice time than Rob Ray & Geoff Sanderson combined). By the time Game #2 rolled around, Miro Satan and Curtis Brown were back and healthy so they tried to send him down to Rochester but he refused the assignment, went back to Czechia, and never set foot in Buffalo again, although he did have a long and mostly fruitful career in Europe.
