Evander Kane trade rumors: Sabres ‘aggressively’ after Jets forward, maybe for Tyler Myers?

The Buffalo Sabres are in “aggressive” pursuit of Winnipeg Jets left winger Evander Kane, according to TSN. Here’s what Bob McKenzie reported Tuesday evening on television regarding the potential for a deal and the Sabres’ interest in him.

“Of all of those teams that would aggressively like to force [Winnipeg general manager] Kevin Cheveldayoff’s hand to trade Evander Kane before the deadline, I would suggest that the Buffalo Sabres are the most aggressive with their stance. They’ve got a lot of pieces that they can play with here. They’ve got multiple first round picks — their own, of course which isn’t going anywhere, but they’ve got the New York Islanders and the St. Louis Blues. They’ve got lots of prospects in the minors — Joel Armia, a scoring winger from Finland who plays in Rochester comes immediately to mind. They’ve got something for now in terms of expiring contracts, in terms of Drew Stafford and Chris Stewart who are unrestricted free agents at the end of the year.”

It’s been reported in the past that Winnipeg has demanded a package of multiple NHL-level players, prospects and picks in exchange for Kane. The Sabres certainly have the pieces to get it done, and they’re obviously not concerned about the fact that Kane is out for the remainder of this season after shoulder surgery.

Could a blockbuster-type deal occur with Tyler Myers thrown in the mix? McKenzie reported on the possibility of that as well.

“It is not out of the question that if those two are talking about Evander Kane, that big defenseman Tyler Myers gets his name worked into the equation. There has been interest from Winnipeg and Buffalo in doing a Myers deal previous to this. It’d be interesting to see — it’d change the dynamic and could make it a lot more complicated, but that’s something within the realm of possibility.”

What are your thoughts on the potential of a deal here? Is Kane worth the apparent price that it would take to get him, and what would you be willing to see the Sabres give up?
