Evander Kane out 4-6 weeks with an MCL injury

Evander Kane will be out at least a month with an MCL injury said Sabres head coach Dan Bylsma. The Sabres called up Tim Schaller earlier today to fill his spot in the lineup.

Kane took a hit in the middle of the third period while going into the corner from David Schlemko. He immediately went down and needed assistance from the trainers to get off the ice. He skated to the locker room, but didn’t put much weight on his left leg.

He missed much of last season with a shoulder injury, which kept him sidelined for the Sabres post-trade.

The injury is a serious blow to the Sabres wing corps, as he is arguably the Sabres most talented non-center. His absence led to another shuffling of the lines from Bylsma, oddly pushing Nick Deslauriers to the first line with Ryan O’Reilly and Tyler Ennis. The second line is a new and appealing combination, as Jack Eichel is centering Sam Reinhart and Johan Larsson.
