This is the week it all gets settled.
Here we are in April. Six of the eight playoff spots in the Eastern Conference have been settled, and it’s just the two wildcard berths still up for grabs. There’s four teams still in the running for that pair of spots, and the Buffalo Sabres have the lowest points percentage of that quartet.
The Sabres have games in hand on the trio of teams ahead of them – New York Islanders, Pittsburgh Penguins & Florida Panthers – but are also behind on points so need to start cashing those into wins.
That starts tomorrow night when they are in Sunrise to take on the Panthers, and anything less than a regulation win could pretty much doom any chance of catching up.
