DBTB makes three free agent additions!

After an incredible season for the Buffalo Sabres that saw them end a long-suffering playoff drought and come oh-so-close to a Conference Final berth, Die By The Blade has made some moves to beef up the roster going into the new season.

First a big thank you to Steven Staversky who leaves DBTB to tend to his growing family. He helped us keep the site running at some of the darker times in Sabres history and we appreciate his efforts, and wish him well.

Let’s jump into the bios of the three new writers joining the DBTB team.

In little Buffalo, Roc City. Bleed blue, gold, red and black but the other 33 teams are alright. I coach, Fantasy and drive a Zamboni, so I can cover all areas.

I’m a WNY native that’s followed the Sabres my entire life. The teams of the mid-2000s are some of my favorite, early sports memories, and that childhood fandom (for better or worse) kept me hooked during the drought. My love for hockey and all sports pushed me to eventually pursue a career in journalism. I’ve covered high school, college and professional sports for a variety of publications, including WIVB News 4, where I worked as a full-time digital journalist right after college for two years.

When I’m not watching the Sabres/Bills, I love hiking, traveling and trying out restaurants around WNY. I’m also a massive soccer fan and play regularly. However, as a devout Tottenham Hotspur supporter, I often question why I even follow the sport.

In May of 2007, on a bus back from a school trip, I had my first experience with Sabres hockey and really sports in general. While that game was the overtime loss to Ottawa to end the 06-07 season, 12-year-old me was absolutely enamored by the investment my classmates had in the game. I have been hooked on sports, specifically hockey and baseball, ever since. I attended SUNY Oswego, where I studied broadcasting, even doing radio play-by-play for the Men’s hockey team for two seasons during my junior and senior year. I have covered a variety of high school sports on the airwaves for WDOE and in print at the Dunkirk Observer in Chautauqua County.

Outside of the Sabres, I am a diehard Mets, Bills, and Michigan State basketball fan (this is because Ryan Miller went there). When I’m not watching sports, I am probably re-playing a Pokemon game, playing Magic the Gathering or Dungeons and Dragons, or laying on the couch, watching a movie with my wife, our two cats, and dog.

The rest of the team remains the same – Jedi and Calvin are still here, with Chad and Eddie overseeing the operations.

Thank you for sticking with us over the years, please welcome the new writers and here’s looking forward to a great new season!
