Pretenders or Contenders?

The Buffalo Sabres hot start to the 2019-20 National Hockey League season has many excited for what potentially is to come, despite the team’s recent skid.

For the most part, you will find yourself a group of hyped-up Buffalonians ready to tell you how this team has made the next step under new head coach Ralph Krueger.

Through 17 games, the Sabres have a record of 9-6-2. This puts Buffalo in 10th place in the Eastern Conference, with 20 points.

According to SB Nation’s “Pretenders or Contenders” FanPulse voters, the league-wide confidence in the Buffalo Sabres appears to be a little uneasy.

With the recent skid likely scaring a few FanPulse voters into the “Pretenders” category, Buffalo still finds themselves trending in the right direction.

While the Carolina Hurricanes (10-7-1) rank first in this poll, with over 80% belief that they are a contender, the Buffalo Sabres barely edged out the New York Islanders to rank second.

There still remains work to be done for the Sabres to reach the levels in which the Hurricanes currently poll out at, but the tide continues to slowly-but-surely turn toward the better for the Buffalo Sabres.
