Sabres add two goaltenders on the first day of free agency

As we approach the opening of free agency and the new league year at noon today. Reports this morning indicate that the Buffalo Sabres will add two goaltenders when free agency opens.

The first is one we’ve heard about for a few days now former St. Louis Blues and Nashville Predators goaltender Carter Hutton. Andy Strickland of Fox Sports Midwest indicates the 32-year-old goaltender will sign a three-year, $8.25 million contract ($2.75 million cap hit).

Strickland also indicated he left more money on the table elsewhere to come to the Sabres.

Hutton has been a career backup with the Blues and Predators. He had a career years this past season with a .931 save percentage and 2.09 goals against average, with 17 wins in 26 appearances.

The other player the Sabres will be adding to the goaltending depth is Scott Wedgewood. It’s a two-way deal worth $425 thousand in the NHL.

He’ll report to the AHL to play for the Rochester Americans next season with recently re-signed Adam Wilcox.
