Buffalo Sabres World Junior Championship prospect update

The 2015 World Junior Championships are four days old, and the four Sabres prospects involved have played three games each, so we figured it would be a good time to see how each of them are performing for their respective countries.

Name Country GP G A P +/- S
Sam Reinhart CAN 3 2 3 5 +6 7
Hudson Fasching USA 3 1 1 2 +5 6
JT Compher USA 3 0 0 0 +1 8
Victor Olofsson SWE 3 0 0 0 +1 2

Team Canada has steamrolled their way through the competition thus far, and Sam Reinhart has been a big part of their dominance, centering the top team’s top line and being named player of the game last night for his two-goal performance. Reinhart, now tied for second in the tournament with five points, had a beauty of a goal last night on a redirection that showed off his incredible hands.

For Team USA, Hudson Fasching has shown very well, scoring his first of the tournament in his last game and putting his big body to good use, consistently getting the puch down low for the Americans. JT Compher has been used in more of a defensive role, despite the effusive praise he gets from the NHLN announcers, and has been featured mostly on the penalty kill, where the US has been perfect.

Victor Oloffson has been relatively quiet so far, but did get the opportunity to play on one of Sweden’s top lines thanks to injuries.

All Sabres prospects have the day off today, but they’ll all be in action tomorrow on the final day of round robin play. The USA and Canada have a huge matchup at 4pm, while Sweden takes on Switzerland at 1pm.
