Buffalo Sabres vs. Montreal Canadiens Recap: Twenty Five Minutes Is All This Team Needed To Win

The Buffalo Sabres looked terrible in the first period. How terrible are we talking about? Let me run through a few bullet points:

– Outshot 14-3 in the period, check

– Leading defenseman, Tyler Myers, has four turnovers in the period, check

– Make all-star goaltender keep team in game, check

– Exit period with a 0-0 tie, check.

After the first period, the Sabres seemed to settle down and they found a way to win this game and leave Montreal with two points as they scored two goals in the second period and an empty net goal at the end of the game. For the Canadiens, Raphael Diaz scored his first career goal on an off-angle shot that beat Miller after he came out of the net to challenge the shooter. The Sabres countered with a goal from Jordon Leopold in front of the net after he capitalized on a Drew Stafford rebound. The goal of the game for the Sabres came with 2.8 seconds left in the second period. Paul Gaustad won the faceoff in the offensive zone, passed the puck to Gragnani who passed the puck to Pominville, who passed it to Vanek who got it in the net. It was so pretty, we just have to include the video:

Ryan Miller was the star of this game as he made 40 saves in the game and all 14 saves in the first period to keep the Sabres in the game and eventually win the game. Miller has played well this season except for the lone loss to the Hurricanes at home. At the opposite end of the ice, Carey Price took the loss with 20 saves, his fourth loss of the season.

The Sabres will now head to Florida to take on the Panthers on Thursday night.
