Ville Leino Injured In Season Opener

Ville Leino was set on proving everyone wrong after only playing in eight games during the shortened 2012 season due to various injuries. That was quickly derailed as Leino cracked a rib in the first period of the season opener against the Detroit Red Wings and will be out indefinitely.

While the injury is bad for Leino, it does give center Johan Larsson a chance to prove himself in the lineup. Larsson impressed in the preseason but was a healthy scratch for the season opening game. Head coach Ron Rolston mentioned how big of an opportunity this is for Larsson after today’s practice:

“I like everything about him. His attitude, the way he works, preparation. He’s a good detail player. This will give him a good opportunity to play with some good players and show us what he can do.”

The revamped lineup will open up the home stand on Friday night against the Ottawa Senators.
