Buffalo Sabres Traverse City Update

The Buffalo Sabres first trip to the Traverse City Prospect Tournament has been a productive one for the Sabres prospects as they have won their first two games of the tournament.

On Saturday, the Sabres defeated the prospects from the Minnesota Wild by a score of 6-3 with six different prospects each scoring a goal. Daniel Catenacci, Riley Boychuk, Jonathan Parker, Nick Crawford, Luke Adam, and Phil Varone each scored a goal while Nathan Lieuwen made 18 saves to get the win. The official Amerks Youtube page has the highlights of the game:

On Sunday, the Sabres prospects put up another six goals, this time against the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Sabres defeated the Blue Jackets 6-3, with the prospects spreading the scoring out again. Shawn Szydlowski, Cedrick Henley, Riley Boychuk, Gregg Sutch, Nick Crawford, and Luke Adam each scored for the Sabres as Ryan Rondeau made 23 saves in the victory.

The Sabres will face off against the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday to finish out the round robin portion of the tournament. If the Sabres win that game, they will have swept the round robin portion and finish 1st in the Howe Division. That would put them in line for the Championship game on Wednesday night against the winner of the Gretzky division. Currently, the Rangers are leading the Gretzky division after two wins against St. Louis and Dallas.

If the Rangers and Sabres meet in the Championship game, the game will be aired on MSG and NHL Network as they are covering all of the Rangers Traverse City games.
