Buffalo Sabres Top 25 Under 25, #25: Linus Weissbach
Linus Weissbach kicks off our first version of the annual top 25 under 25
The Top 25 Under 25 is a collaboration by members of the Die By The Blade community. It was a combination of seven staff writers and over 250 fans that ranked players under the age of 25 as of July 15th, 2020. Each participant used their own metric of current ability and production to rank each player. This is our 2020 pre-draft rankings.
We kick things off in our pre-draft version of the 2020 top 25 under 25 with 2017 seventh-round pick Linus Weissbach. The Swedish-born forward caught the attention of fans after a strong sophomore season at the University of Wisconsin during the 2018-19 campaign.
Going into this season he had some high expectations. Especially when you consider that he was going to be playing two of the top players in the NCAA in Alex Turcotte and Cole Caufield. Unfortunately, Weissbach fell well short of expectations. He only scored four goals and 22 points in 35 games.
Here is Cole Caufield's 6th goal of the season and his 2nd tonight. Give helpers to Linus Weissbach and Alex Turcotte. Wow! #Badgers #NTDP #GoHabsGo pic.twitter.com/5VSrFxtOhW

As an undersized forward he needs to showcase a high-end skillset in some area of the game and you don’t get that from him. The good news is that he may get an opportunity to play with Caufield again next season. Turcotte, however, signed an entry-level deal with the Los Angeles Kings.
Weissbach will need to have a strong senior year to have a realistic chance at the already long-shot odds of a seventh-round pick securing an entry-level contract.
