You could say Vsevolod Komarov knows a little bit about winning.
The Buffalo Sabres prospect is a back-to-back QMJHL champion. As a member of the Quebec Remparts, he won both the Gilles-Courteau Trophy and Memorial Cup in 2023. He also scored the game-winning goal in the Memorial Cup Final.
This past season, he started the season with Quebec and was an alternate captain before being traded in December. Komarov was sent to Drummondville along with Mikael Huchette in exchange for Nino Tomov, Mavrick Rousseau-Hamel and four draft picks.
Trading a member of the leadership team, and their leading scorer, was an interesting choice for Quebec, but it certainly worked out for Komarov. He exploded offensively for 50 points in 38 regular-season games with his new team, finishing the season in Drummondville as a plus-44. He won the Émile-Bouchard Trophy as the QMJHL’s best defenseman, putting up a total of 69 points (including 55 assists), beating out Voltigeurs teammate Maveric Lamoureux and Victoriaville’s Pier-Olivier Roy.
Drummondville went on to win the Gilles-Courteau Trophy, and Komarov was awarded the Guy-Lafleur Trophy as the most valuable player of the playoffs. He had 15 points in 19 games and led the team with 75 shots on goal. In both the regular season and playoffs, he was particularly effective on the power play. He also led the league in points and assists among defensemen.
Komarov signed his entry-level deal with the Sabres in 2023 and is expected to join the Amerks this fall.
