Sabres Send TJ Brennan To Florida For Draft Pick

A few hours after sending Mikhail Grigorenko back to the Quebec Remparts, Sabres General Manager Darcy Regier announced his first trade of the season. This trade sent defenseman TJ Brennan to the Florida Panthers for a 2013 5th round draft pick. The pick originally belonged to the New Jersey Devils but was acquired by the Panthers from the Los Angeles Kings.

TJ Brennan played 21 games over two seasons for the Buffalo Sabres. In those 21 games, Brennan had two goals and no assists. In 189 games in the AHL, Brennan had 37 goals and 55 assists.

The move leaves the Buffalo Sabres with six healthy defensemen after Alexander Sulzer was placed on IR after tearing his ACL against the New York Islanders on February 23rd. It also leaves the Sabres some room to call up some defensemen from Rochester or decide to make another move to acquire a veteran defenseman. After the 2013 season, the team will only have three defensemen under contract.
