Buffalo Sabres Sign Cody Hodgson To Six Year Deal
Cody Hodgson himself announced that he signed a six year deal with the Buffalo Sabres on Wednesday. Terms of the deal appear to be for $25.5 million total or a cap hit of $4.25 million/year.
In all honesty, Cody Hodgson announced the six year deal himself through the Sabres' Vine account:
The terms of the deal from Sportsnet's Nick Kypreos:
#3 for a dollar. Ok last try. 4.25m x 6. 25.5M for #Sabres Hodgson.— Nick Kypreos (@RealKyper) September 11, 2013
For a 23 year old center that was second on the team in points and had 15 goals in 48 games last season, a six year deal is a good pay day. The deal is on level with the one that Drew Stafford received a few years ago and establishes Hodgson as one of the integral members that the Sabres will build the franchise around.
There are questions surrounding Hodgson's defensive awareness and play, which were highlighted so well in this piece from Matthew Collier of WGR. With a full year under new head coach Ron Rolston, that lack of defensive play may continue to get better.
