Malengoat stays! Free agency week started with the Buffalo Sabres locking up a key piece of the bottom six to a new six-year deal with Beck Malenstyn signing a new contract for $17.5 million, which works out to an AAV of $2.9167M.
As a key piece of the Sabres fourth line, the fast-skating hard-hitting forward featured in 81 regular season games, scoring 7 goals and 7 assists averaging 11:15 a night with 38 PIM and a 40% faceoff win percentage. He added to that with 1 goal and 2 assists in 13 playoff games playing 10:30 a game.
The new deal marks more than double his previous contract at 2x $1.35M, but it’s a well-earned raise given how essential he has been to the Sabres forward corps.
With Malenstyn now locked up, an integral part of the fourth line is in place along with Sam Carrick and the Sabres can focus on the top nine.
