Sabres Send 12 to AHL as Preseason Continues

With three preseason games in the books, the Buffalo Sabres trimmed their roster on Saturday, releasing 12 players from their tryouts. All 12 will report to Rochester Americans training camp, which begins Monday with the first on-ice sessions Tuesday.

Here are the players who were released, who will now report to Rochester:

Forwards: Dominic Franco, Mason Jobst, Michael Mersch, Ryan Scarfo, Brendan Warren

Defense: Nick Boka, Matthew Cairns, Mitch Eliot, Josh Teves, Peter Tischke

Goaltenders: Michael Houser, Mat Robson

The Amerks will have physicals and medical testing on Monday, then on-ice sessions daily. Preaseason tilts against Utica (Friday, 7 pm) and Syracuse (Sunday, 3 pm) are on the schedule for the upcoming week.

With this round of cuts, here’s a quick look at the players remaining in training camp with the Sabres:

The Sabres have three more preseason games left. Their first three games were a mixed bag, starting with a 5-4 comeback win in a shootout over Columbus, followed by a nasty 6-2 loss to Detroit. They capped off the past week with a 2-1 loss in front of a very small crowd against the Penguins in Buffalo.
