Sabres select Dylan Cozens at seventh overall

The Buffalo Sabres made their first scheduled pick in round one of the 2019 NHL Draft by selecting Dylan Cozens from the WHL. This marks the first selection of a Canadian-junior player by the Sabres under the direction of Jason Botterill.

The 6’3 center had 84 points in 68 games last season for the Lethbridge Hurricanes. He’s a quick skater, with nice vision, and a good shot. He’s also touted as a very competitive player and has the confidence in his game.

He’s still a little bit raw and will likely need another year if not more in juniors before making the jump to begin his professional career.

The Sabres decided to pass on Trevor Zegras and Cole Caufield that were also on the board at seventh overall. Now, we’ll see what the Sabres do with their second first round pick at 31 overall. Do they make the pick or trade it?
