Sabres Roster Updates Ahead of the Weekend

As the Buffalo Sabres prepare for this weekend’s games against the Washington Capitals, the rosters for both teams are certainly going to be interesting.

Linus Ullmark, who missed the last two games due to ‘personal reasons,’ spoke on Sabres.com about the passing of his father overseas in Sweden. Read more about Ullmark’s story here; from the sound of it, Ullmark appears poised to join the team on their trip to DC.

The Sabres announced Thursday afternoon that they have reassigned netminder Dustin Tokarski from the Rochester Americans to the NHL’s taxi squad. This, of course, may be related to the questionable status of Carter Hutton after he fell and appeared to hit his head on the post in the game against the Flyers.

Elsewhere, forward Kyle Okposo returned to the ice for Sabres practice on Thursday after missing the first four games of the season. In a corresponding move, Rasmus Asplund was returned to the team’s taxi squad, which opens up a spot for Okposo to return to the lineup on Friday night.

There are some questions about the Sabres’ lineup heading into Friday night, but we already know a little bit about the Capitals’ lineup – and it’s significant.

Four Capitals players – Alexander Ovechkin, Evgeny Kuznetsov, Dmitry Orlov and Ilya Samsonov – were all added to the team’s COVID-19 list earlier in the week. It was later announced that these players spent time together in a hotel room, which is strictly prohibited by the league’s protocols.

As a result of the infraction, those four players are required to quarantine and will miss the next four games, at least – two of which are against the Sabres.

The Capitals have now recalled goaltender Craig Anderson to the NHL roster and assigned forward Connor McMichael to the taxi squad.

The Sabres and Capitals are scheduled to play on Friday (7 p.m.) and Sunday (3 p.m.). Both games are in Washington and will be broadcast on MSG and WGR-550.
