Sabres reportedly close to signing Jesper Olofsson

According to reports out of Sweden, the Buffalo Sabres are close to signing the brother of Victor Olofsson, Jesper.

Jesper is Victor’s older brother and has played the last few years in the SHL, most recently for Farjestad. This past season he score 17 goals and registered 28 points in 44 games.

The 28-year-old winger is a smooth skater that has some scoring ability to his game. He doesn’t have the shot that his brother possesses, but he can provide some depth scoring.

With his age and production in Europe, on the surface this looks like a signing to help the Rochester Amerks in the AHL. It’ll be interesting to see if he’s given an AHL contract or if the Sabres use an NHL contract on him.

Olofsson is the second free agent out of Europe the Sabres have been tied to. A few more ago there were reports they were interested in Eemeli Suomi out of Finland.
