Buffalo Sabres Recall Will Borgen

The Buffalo Sabres have recalled defenseman Will Borgen from the AHL’s Rochester Americans, the team announced on Tuesday morning. The Sabres play in Ottawa on Tuesday night.

Borgen is in his first full professional season and has spent the entire season thus far in Rochester. He has 12 points and a plus-7 in 66 games this season but has also showcased the physical side to his game.

This is his first NHL recall, and assuming he plays, he may make his NHL debut tonight. Unfortunately, at this point, we’ll only get a limited taste of what he can offer at the NHL level, as the Sabres only have seven games left this season, and it’s unlikely that Borgen will be up for the rest of them (thought not impossible).

Borgen, a graduate of St. Cloud State, was drafted by the Sabres in 2015 with the 92nd overall pick. In 106 NCAA games, he recorded 41 points and was named NCHC Best Defensive Defenseman.

He also suited up for Team USA at the 2016 IIHF World Junior Championships and won a bronze medal. Borgen was also named to Team USA’s roster for the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang.
