Sabres Recall Victor Olofsson

Well, it finally happened. After months of waiting, on Wednesday afternoon, the Buffalo Sabres announced that forward, Victor Olofsson had been recalled from the Rochester Amerks.

In his first full season of North American action, the 23-year-old sniper currently leads the Amerks in both goals and total points with 27 and 60, respectively. His point total puts him in a five-way tie for fifth most in the AHL this season. He’s also the team’s leading power-play threat with 23 points on the man-advantage.

It’s no secret that the Sabres have sorely lacked scoring depth on the wing this season. Boasting one of the most explosive releases in the organization, it will be interesting to see if his goal-scoring prowess translates to the NHL.

One of the more underrated aspects of Olofsson’s development thus far, is the improvement he’s made on the defensive side of the puck in 2018-19. That missing piece may have been why he did not receive a call-up sooner, but he’s here now and fans in Buffalo are undoubtedly happy to have him, albeit for a short while.

The Sabres next game is tomorrow evening against the Detroit Red Wings. We’ll soon find out if Olofsson actually makes his debut in blue-and-gold on home ice. Puck drop is at 7:00PM.
