Sabres Recall Tennyson

For the first time since mid-December, Matt Tennyson will rejoin the Sabres with six games remaining

On Thursday afternoon, the Buffalo Sabres announced that the team had recalled veteran defenseman, Matt Tennyson from the Rochester Amerks. The 28-year-old blueliner hasn’t dressed in an NHL game since the Sabres’ 4-3 shootout loss to the Washington Capitals on December 15.

Since arriving in Buffalo as a free-agent signing in 2017, he has become a fan punching-bag of sorts given his lackluster play with the big club. In 19 games with Buffalo since 2017-18, he has failed to register a single point.

In 45 contests with Rochester this season, he’s managed to find the score sheet, posting 20 points on the year, which ranks him fourth among Amerks defenders. We’ll see if he actually ends up taking the ice for the Sabres at any point before the end of the season, but for now, this appears to be a precautionary call-up, for now.

No additional injuries or illnesses have been announced by the team at this point, but the fact that this call-up occurred so late in the day indicates that an announcement may be coming. Stay tuned.
