Sabres recall Pilut from Amerks

The Buffalo Sabres have recalled defenseman Lawrence Pilut from the Rochester Americans, the team announced on Sunday. Pilut was sent down to the AHL team on Saturday in what many considered a questionable move, but it appears he may have just been sent down to play one game.

The Amerks dropped a 4-0 decision to the Toronto Marlies on Saturday north of the border. Pilut recorded three shots on goal and was a minus-2 in the loss, and now he’s right back in Buffalo and may be in the lineup when the Sabres host the Anaheim Ducks on Sunday afternoon.

It’s unclear at this point whether or not Pilut will actually play on Sunday, or whether he’s back to be an extra body around. We should know more later this afternoon when Sabres head coach Ralph Krueger speaks to the media.

Pilut has averaged over 16 minutes of ice time this season at the NHL level, appearing in 10 games with the Sabres. Back in the AHL, he’s put up 22 points, including 16 assists, in 31 games with the Amerks. That’s good for second among Amerks defenders in scoring, behind only Zach Redmond (who has 27 points – in 45 games.)
