Sabres recall defenseman Lawrence Pilut, again

Update:

After returning Pilut to the Amerks on Friday evening, the Sabres have recalled the defenseman again today.

We’ll see if he gets into the lineup tonight against the San Jose Sharks or is in Buffalo as insurance.

You can see our story from last week on Pilut’s recall below

The Buffalo Sabres announced this afternoon they’ve recalled 22-year-old Swedish defenseman Lawrence Pilut from the Rochester Americans of the AHL.

Marco Scandella will miss tonight’s game with a foot injury he suffered in the game Monday against the Pittsburgh Penguins. To make room for Pilut the Sabres placed forward Patrik Berglund on injured reserve with an upper-body injury.

Pilut has caught the eye of fans since he showcased his skills during the preseason. He’s continued his strong play into his first North American pro season with the Amerks.

He has three goals and 22 points in 15 games this season in the AHL, which has him tied for the lead in points in the entire league.

This morning Phil Housley indicated that Nathan Beaulieu would enter the lineup in place of Scandella, but we’ll see if this changes his plans. The Sabres have three games in four nights (Friday against Montreal and Saturday in Detroit), so we’ll see if he makes his way into the lineup during this call up.
