Sabres Re-Sign C.J. Smith

The Buffalo Sabres announced on Tuesday afternoon that they have re-signed restricted free agent C.J. Smith.

Smith’s new two-year deal will come with an average annual value of $700,000.

Last season, Smith split time between Buffalo and Rochester (AHL).

In 11 games with the Sabres, Smith recorded two points (two goals).

In 62 games with the Americans, Smith recorded 58 points (28 goals, 30 assists). Smith also led the Americans with a +26 on-ice rating.

Heading into next season, Smith is expected to battle for a bottom-six role within the Sabres lineup.

According to CapFriendly, Smith will again be a restricted free agent following the completion of this two-year deal and will continue to be arbitration eligible at that point.
