Report: Marcus Davidsson and Vaxjo agree to terminate contract

Reports out of Sweden this morning have indicated that Buffalo Sabres prospect Marcus Davidsson and Vaxjo have mutually agreed to terminate his contract. He’ll now be on the search for a new team to play for.

Davidsson was a second-round pick of the Sabres back in 2017. After a strong D+1 season, he has regressed. He left Djurgardens two years ago looking for a bigger opportunity and hoped to find that with Vaxjo under Sam Hallam.

Unfortunately, that switch didn’t work out. On top of poor production levels in the 2019-20 season, he battled injuries. When he was healthy to play this season, he was given little ice time. He hasn’t played since October 22nd and only has one assist in 12 games played this season.

We’ll see what the next move is for Davidsson. It’s likely he’ll look to hook on with another team in the SHL. At this point, bringing him over to North America is not an option unless they give him a contract. They’ll need to make a decision on that next offseason before his exclusive rights expire.

Update: Davidsson will reportedly join Vastervik in Sweden’s tier two league HockeyAllsvenskan.
