Buffalo Sabres Place Patrick Kaleta On Waivers

The Buffalo Sabres needed to make a move to make room for the debut of Corey Tropp on the roster. They did this with a shocking move of waiving Patrick Kaleta. Kaleta had just finished his 10 game suspension and was eligible to return tonight against the Anaheim Ducks. Instead, he will head to Rochester if no other team claims him first.

Darcy Regier made a statement on the move that was released by the team:

“This was a move we thought was necessary to help Pat change his game and preserve his career in this league,” Regier said. “We believe in Pat as a person and we hope he will continue his career in our organization and, if the circumstances are right, with the Buffalo Sabres.”

We will know more about Kaleta’s status with the team after he clears waivers at noon on Sunday. Kaleta has a manageable cap hit of $1.25 million for other teams to claim him but also has a massive reputation as well.
