Sabres place Dea on waivers

The Buffalo Sabres are eligible to open training camp on Thursday. Today, they may have begun their assignments for the taxi squad. They placed forward Jean-Sebastien Dea on waivers.

The 26-year-old forward would need to clear waivers before he could be assigned to the Sabres taxi squad. This move, on the surface, appears to be step one of that process.

Dea only played in three games with the Sabres last season but was a key player on the Rochester Amerks. He led the team in points with 39 and tied for the lead in goals with 15 in 57 games.

We’ll see if this is a trend and they continue to place other players on waivers over the next few days to begin to assemble their taxi squad that will feature between four and six players. The taxi squad must include at least one goaltender if they don’t carry three on the active roster. Therefore they would be allowed a max of five skaters.
