We had all expected there to be a bit of a drop off or a lull from the Buffalo Sabres when the regular season resumed after the Olympics break. Instead the Sabres surprised us by coming out tires blazing and going three-and-oh on their road trip, including two impressive wins against a desperate Panthers and overconfident Lightning.
This week Buffalo play three of four at home and have a chance to continue marching up the division standings.
Tue, Mar 3rd, 7pm EST – Buffalo Sabres (35-19-6) vs Vegas Golden Knights (28-18-14)
Thu, Mar 5th, 7pm EST – Buffalo Sabres at Pittsburgh Penguins (31-15-13)
Sat, Mar 7th, 5:30pm EST – Buffalo Sabres vs Nashville Predators (27-24-8)
Sun, Mar 8th, 6pm EST – Buffalo Sabres vs Tampa Bay Lightning (38-16-4)
However, all the chatter around the Sabres for the next few days will be the upcoming trade deadline – Friday, March 6, 2026, at 3 p.m. ET.
For the first time in many, many years Buffalo are expected to be buyers at the deadline as they look set to end their historic playoff drought. The Sabres are in an odd position where they have fired former GM Kevyn Adams and now his team look to have gelled and are are achieving the expected potential. New GM Jarmo Kekäläinen could choose to do nothing, but could also tweak a thing or two given the team’s focus has surely changed from just making the playoffs to actually making some noise in said playoffs.
The Amerks season unfortunately is not mirroring that of the parent club with the losses piling up as player after player has been called up to Buffalo. Rochester are on a six-game losing streak now and hoping to end that this week, but they do take on their old nemesis Laval, so nothing is a given there.
Fri, Mar 6th, 7pm EST – Rochester Americans (24-20-5-3) at Laval Rocket (34-17-2-3)
Sat, Mar 7th, 3pm ET – Rochester Americans at Laval Rocket
