Jason Pominville nominated for the Masterton Trophy

The Buffalo chapter of the Professional Hockey Writers Association (PHWA) nominated Buffalo Sabres forward Jason Pominville for the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy this season.

According to the NHL the Masterton Trophy is an “award given annually to the player who best exemplifies perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey.”

Every PHWA chapter in the NHL nominates a player for the award and then the winner is decided by a poll of the 31 chapters when the season concludes.

Pominville continues to be an impactful player for the Sabres at the age of 36-years-old. He has 15 goals and 28 points in 63 games for the club this season. He’s played up and down the lineup and is a respected player with his teammates.

A few other former Sabres players were nominated for the award this season including Taylor Fedun (Dallas Stars) and Robin Lehner (New York Islanders). Lehner could be the early favorite with his great bounce back season and overcoming the mental health issues he suffered from in his past.
