McCabe to miss the remainder of the preseason

The Buffalo Sabres announced this morning that Jake McCabe will miss the remainder of the preseason with an upper-body injury. The release said that he should be ready for the start of the regular season.

McCabe signed a new two-year deal worth $5.7 million with the Sabres this summer as a restricted free agent. Each of the last two years, McCabe has missed significant time during the season with an injury.

The 25-year-old defenseman will miss tonight’s game against the Columbus Blue Jackets and the game over the weekend against the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Sabres open the season a week from today in Pittsburgh against the Penguins.

It appears as though John Gilmour will step into the role vacated by McCabe and may even give him one of the final roster spots if McCabe isn’t 100% ready to go by opening night.

Johan Larsson and Conor Sheary also remain out of the lineup with minor injuries.
