Sabres fall flat, lose to Canadiens

Final Score: Canadiens 3, Sabres 1

Shots: MTL-30, BUF-21

Buffalo Goal Scorers: Jack Eichel

Canadiens Goal Scorers: Ilya Kovalchuk, Brendan Gallagher, Tomas Tatar

Minus 1 – It’s All Downhill From Here

The Sabres didn’t start off Thursday night’s game on a bad note. They were actually outshooting the Canadiens 8-0 about eight minutes into the game, and held the Habs without a shot for quite a bit of the first period. Eichel got Buffalo on the board, and things looked… sort of okay? But as the game went on, the Sabres just fell apart.

The second period in particular was rough. Kovalchuk tied the game just 44 seconds in, and Gallagher put the Canadiens up a few minutes later. Things just got ugly and bad, fast, and Buffalo managed only a measly three shots on goal in the middle frame.

The third period wasn’t much better.

Minus 2 – A Lax Effort

Not to go all chart-heavy on you guys, but Chad’s charts from the game say a lot:

Minus 3 – Roster Questions

Sabres head coach Ralph Krueger recently said something about playing the guys who want to be here. Thursday night, he put Evan Rodrigues – a player who has quite literally requested a trade – not only in the lineup, but…. on the top line.

Excuse me, but…. what?
