Sabres Extend Six Qualifying Offers

This afternoon, the Buffalo Sabres announced that six pending restricted free-agents had received qualifying-offers from the team. Sam Reinhart, Brandon Montour, Casey Mittelstadt, Lawrence Pilut, Victor Olofsson, and Linus Ullmark were all tendered their QO’s before today’s deadline.

One extremely notable omission from that list was 25-year-old forward, Dominik Kahun. After coming over from the Pittsburgh Penguins at the 2020 trade deadline (in exchange for Conor Sheary and Evan Rodrigues), Kahun posted four points in six games for the Sabres.

With an $850,000 qualifying offer, the decision not to tender Kahun is bizarre. Perhaps an extension is already in place and just hasn’t been announced yet, but nothing has been confirmed.

UPDATE: Per his agent, the Sabres chose not to give him the minimum qualifying offer, and the player rejected Buffalo’s offer. The two sides are expecting to meet again to work this out on Thursday. [AP News]
