Two weeks after Devon Levi officially signed his entry-level contract with the NHL’s Buffalo Sabres, the 21-year-old is expected to make his debut in the blue & gold against the New York Rangers on Friday.
According to Kevin Weekes, Levi is expected to get the start Friday, which would mark his first real game action since the Northeastern Huskies season ended on March 11. After signing with the Sabres on March 17 and a period of time where immigration paperwork had to get settled, along with an acclimation period of getting him used to being part of the NHL club, Levi now appears poised to get going.
Levi’s debut comes at a good time, if a high-pressure one, for the Sabres. The team’s playoff chances are fluctuating daily, relying partly on their own performance but largely on the performances of others (Florida, Pittsburgh, the Islanders). With just over two weeks left in the regular season, Levi should see a fair amount of action, especially with Craig Anderson day-to-day with injury.
Have your say: nine games left in the Sabres’ regular season, including three sets of back-to-back games. How many do you want to see Levi start?
