The Buffalo Sabres clinch 30th place with loss to Columbus

After month and months of agonizingly above-their-status hockey, the Buffalo Sabres have finally done the thing that they set out to do more than two years ago, by losing to the Columbus Blue Jackets tonight 4-2.

The Sabres have clinched 30th place. thus guaranteeing themselves last place and one of at least Connor McDavid or Jack Eichel.

We f*****g did it.

The Sabres made us sweat it out, and looking back, it wouldn’t have been a Sabres game if it didn’t cause you to be a nervous wreck for most of the night, but in the end, the third period would see Columbus score two goals to break a 2-2 tie and send the Sabres to their ultimate destiny.

As wonderful as that third Columbus goal looked, it paled in comparison to the Sabres final minute of play, where they fumbled the puck and generally looked more inept than they did the rest of the night in the loss.

And everyone over at the DBTB house was literally up and dancing our hearts out.

Thank you Sabres, for ending this misery before our final home game. With 30th place secure, we can now go to tomorrow’s season finale with clear eyes and full hearts, and can give the team we love a rousing ovation, and a full-throated “LET’S GO BUFFALO!”
