Sabres can’t hang-on, fall 6-3 to the Devils
The Sabres lead 1-0 briefly but ended up losing 6-3
Score: Sabres 3 | Devils 6

Sabres Goals: Victor Olofsson (11), Tage Thompson (3), Jeff Skinner (4)

1 | Uphill battle
A good start to the game as Buffalo opened by scoring less than a minute in, but the Devils answered with three straight to finish the first. The Sabres bounced back in the second to tie the game at 3 and then had another up-hill battle as the Devils continued scoring in the third.
2 | Dahlin hits 100 point milestone
Rasmus Dahlin recorded his 100th point of his career, assisting Jeff Skinner for the Sabres’ 3rd goal of the game. According to the Sabres PR, he is the second-fastest (180 games) and second-youngest defenseman to reach the milestone in franchise history.
Dahlin became the second-fastest Sabres defenseman to reach the milestone after making his NHL debut with the team. He trails only Phil Housley, who recorded his 100th point in his 106th game.

3 | Special Teams
Penalties can make or break a game and tonight it hindered the Sabres. New Jersey was 2-for-4 on their power-plays while Buffalo was 1-for-3. New Jersey’s first two goals of the game were on the powerplay and were 1 minute 41 seconds apart. If those two goals are taken away, tonight’s final is 4-3, including an empty net goal. Also the Sabres would have been leading 3-1 going into the third. This game has a much different outcome if those quick two powerplay goals aren’t allowed.
4 | Devils throwing jabs
The Devils’ Twitter was quick to poke fun at the 6-3 loss with this gif of the Sabres eating a loss from New Jersey. Tad bold for a team that lost 5-3 two days ago, short-term memory I suppose.
