The Buffalo Sabres open their preseason today in Washington in the first of six warm-up games, beginning today and ending on October 3. The lineup has not been revealed as of this writing, nor has the starting goalie, but according to Chris Ryndak of Sabres.com, the lines will be different than they’ve been in practice, likely to give the younger guys a first crack on the ice.

Today also marks the professional debut of Sam Reinhart, the #2 overall pick in the 2014 draft. If that amount of talent wasn’t enough of a reason to keep your eye on him, Reinhart’s quest to make the team is one of the major training camp stories and he’ll have to produce early and often to impress Ted Nolan, who has been notoriously reluctant to give young players a spot on the team simply based on potential.

Sabres hockey is back, people. Come bask with us in all of its preseason glory right here at 5pm.
