Sabres assign Matej Pekar to the AHL

The Buffalo Sabres announced today they’ve reassigned 2018 fourth-round pick Matej Pekar to the Rochester Amerks of the AHL.

The 19-year-old played with the Barrie Colts of the OHL this season. He scored 14 goals and 36 points in 33 games for the Colts this season.

He also participated in the U20 World Junior Championship this year for his native Czech Republic.

Pekar has been out since the middle of January with a broken collarbone. We’ll see if he gets in any games with the Amerks or is just around to get a feel of the team. Rochester has 12 games remaining before the AHL playoffs start.

Pekar is a skilled forward that his hard to play against and known for his agitator style. He would be a nice addition to the Amerks lineup down the stretch for depth if he plays.

He also has a year of OHL eligibility left so the Sabres could send him back to Barrie next season or maybe this is a sign they want him to begin his pro career.
