Sabres announce Bogosian had successful hip surgery

The Buffalo Sabres announced this morning that defenseman Zach Bogosian underwent successful hip surgery after the season ended. The 28-year-old defender played 65 games this season, which is the most he’s played in a season during his time in Buffalo.

Bogosian played pretty well for the Sabres this season along side Rasmus Dahlin for the most part. He has one more year remaining on his contract, but a second hip surgery in two years adds some concern for his future.

The Sabres said the recovery time is five to six months. Meaning it’s unlikely he’ll be ready to start the regular season if he won’t be fully healed until September or October.

They have some decision to make on the blue line summer and this news could throw a wrench into some of that. As of now Rasmus Ristolainen, Casey Nelson, Brandon Montour, and Will Borgen are the top three right-shot defensemen in the organization if you don’t count Bogosian.
