The Buffalo Sabres’ home opener for the 2018-19 NHL season is set.
The Sabres will host the Boston Bruins on Thursday, October 4, with puck drop at 7 p.m. at the KeyBank Center.
The NHL season will open the day prior, but that October 4 game will be the Sabres’ season-opener as well.
This will mark the fourth straight season that the Sabres will open at home against a divisional opponent, and Buffalo’s game on October 4 will be one of at least nine on the schedule that night league-wide.
Buffalo has twice faced Boston in the season-opening game before: in the 1993-94 and 1974-75 seasons.
Last season, Buffalo opened the regular season at home against the Montreal Canadiens with Buffalo losing in a shootout, 3-2. The Sabres also opened the season prior against Montreal with a loss.
The last time Buffalo opened the season with a victory: the 2012-13 season. That year, they hosted the Philadelphia Flyers for the opening game of the lockout-shortened season on January 20, 2013, ending up in a 5-2 win.
The full NHL schedule will be released on Thursday, June 21.
