Beauts draft pick Loren Gabel wins Patty Kaz

Buffalo Beauts draft pick and Clarkson Golden Knights forward Loren Gabel has been named the 2019 Patty Kazmaier Award winner in a ceremony held the morning of March 23. The award is presented to the player considered to be the best in NCAA women’s hockey.

Gabel is the one of only 22 players to have achieved the honor. She is the second Golden Knight; Jamie Lee Rattray won the prestigious award. Should Gable sign with the Beauts for the 2019-20 season, the young star will be the second Beaut to have attained the accomplishment, following in Team USA captain Meghan Duggan’s legendary footsteps.

Golden Knights coach Matt Desrosiers told the press, “Loren exemplifies everything the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award represents; a top performer in the country, competitiveness, performance in the clutch, and a true passion and love for the game of hockey.”

Gabel’s Golden Knights lost to top-ranked Wisconsin in the women’s Frozen Four semi-final last night. The loss comes on the heels of back-to-back championships.

The diminutive sniper finished her career with 213 points in just 160 games, with 116 goals. After her selection in the draft, Gabel stated, “It is an honor to be drafted to the Buffalo Beauts. This is an amazing organization and I am excited for what the future holds for me as a professional hockey player.”
