This one hurt.

Rochester let slip a trio of one-goal leads, and a late two-goal edge to lose in a most excruciating manner. Toronto scored twice in the game’s final nine seconds to send home the 7,541 patrons jammed into The Blue Cross Arena in a foul mood.

The Amerks led 2-1 after one, 3-2 after two, 4-2 early in third, and 5-4 with just 5:53 remaining. The Marlies got their equalizer a little under two minutes later, which set up their final flurry.

The visitors scored the eventual game winner at 19:51. Rochester immediately pulled goalie Malcolm Subban, only for Toronto to score into the hosts unguarded net at 19:58.

Through it all, Amerks forward Mason Jobst managed to earn first star honors by notching a hat trick. Jiri Kulich scored Rochester’s first goal. Jeremy Davies tallied the Amerks fourth goal, which at the time, looked to make him the hero.

Anders Bjork (3), Michael Mersch (3) and Lawrence Pilut (2) combined for eight assists.

Subban finished with 26 saves. The loss was his first in his last eight starts.

First star: Mason Jobst

Rochester record: 19-12-1-1 (3rd place, AHL North Division)
