The value of top-notch goaltending was on display tonight. Malcolm Subban was on his game from the outset, carrying Rochester across the line at The Blue Cross Arena.
Subban stopped 41 of the 42 shots he faced. As impressive as that is, it's only part of the story.
Laval had the jump and poured on the pressure from the opening faceoff.
It took 22 Rocket shots to solve Subban, and at that time -- early in the second period -- the Amerks had managed just two shots on the Laval net.
Subban wasn't finished.
He stopped the next 20 shots he faced, which was good thing. The hosts were on the short end of a 42-17 SOG total by game's end.
It was Subban's seventh successive win. After a difficult, injury-plagued start to the season, Subban has improved his GAA to 2.79, and his Save Pct. to .916.
Michael Mersch was Rochester's offensive standout, scoring twice. Linus Weissbach scored the eventual game winner, his 13th goal this season.
Chase Priskie, Ethan Prow, and Anders Bjork contributed single assists.
