2023 Player Report Card: Jordan Greenway

Greenway joined the Buffalo Sabres in early March & picked up steam as the NHL season went on.

Total Season Stats: 47-47–94 in 78 games played (total)

Age: 25

Contract Status: Signed through 2029-30, $7.142 million AAV starting next season

It’s really challenging to grade a player based on just 17 games, but in the limited time we did get to see Jordan Greenway with the Sabres this season, he certainly showed sparks of promise.

Greenway was traded to the Sabres on March 3, with the Minnesota Wild receiving a second-round pick in 2023 and a fifth-round pick in 2024 in exchange. The 26-year-old Canton, NY native needed a change of scenery; his offensive production had tapered off with the Wild, and he had seven points in 45 games.

Following the trade, Greenway seemed eager to settle in with his new team, and it showed in spurts on the ice. In the 17 games he played with the Sabres, he notched four goals – doubling his goal total from the previous 45 games with the Wild.

One of the biggest notes about Greenway is his already-formed connection with head coach Don Granato from their time together at the U.S. National Team Development Program. We’ve already seen some of what Granato can do with his former players – see: the revitalization of Tage Thompson into an absolute superstar – and Greenway could also enjoy a surge in his confidence and capabilities.

Greenway’s size is also of note, as he stands at 6’6″ and 231 pounds. He’s a power forward who, as Granato has noted, can play in a number of different situations. His versatility and flexibility, combined with his fervor for the physical side of the game, can be key assets for the Sabres. They didn’t get a ton of time with him this season post-trade – he also missed a few games with injury – but he’s an exciting, perhaps underrated, player to look for next season.
