A brief report from the Blue Cross Arena

The arena was about 75% full but was jumping. I love how loud it gets in that little building. The Amerks overcame a 3-0 deficit in the third period, tying it up with three minutes left and winning on a dribbler deflection in OT. Fittingly on Star Wars Day (May the Fourth be with you), R2 was credited with the winner and was the game’s first star.

I thought the Amerks had the better of the play through 60 minutes including a 25-17 shot advantage. Turnovers led to Belleville’s first two goals and Rochester could not get one to go. They lost Weisbach to what looked like a concussion in the first, Krebs looked fantastic… clearly the fastest guy on the ice for either team, and he ended up with two helpers. Including a sweet pass to Casey Fitzgerald for the tying goal

Belleville dominated OT and had several A chances. Dell had a few nice saves and got help from the post and a nice block in the crease by one of his D.

With about three minutes left in OT, D Josh Teves walked the blue line and flipped a wrister. I didn’t even see how but R2 got a deflection that leaked in for the GWG.

Highlights: Krebs, JJP, Fitzgerald, and R2 looked solid all night. Dell had some big saves when needed.

Lowlights: Seriously shaky officiating; Quinn invisible for long stretches.

Amerks Goals: Lukas Roukas, Jimmy Schuldt, Fitz, R2. Krebs and JJP each with two assists.

Hoping it’s the start of a nice Amerks run!
