The Amerks won another wild one at The Blue Cross Arena. Brett Murray scored the winner 2:01 into overtime. It was Rochester’s second extra session triumph on home ice in three days.
The contest featured a pair of rare hat tricks. One was of the natural variety. The other wasn't quite as pure.
Local product Sean Malone scored the natural one, potting three successive goals in a first-period span of 5:07. The Buffalo native / West Seneca N.Y. resident doubled his season scoring total via the outburst.
Bridgeport’s Andy Andreoff can’t claim a natural hat trick, though he was close. Andreoff scored three straight Islanders goals, but all of them sandwiched a pair of Rochester markers.
Murray added two assists to go with his game winner. The Amerks got single goals from Jiri Kulich and Kale Clague.
Murray was joined in the double-assist club by Isak Rosen, Michael Mersch, and Ethan Prow. Rochester got single helpers from Clague, Linus Weissbach, and Anders Bjork.
Malcolm Subban got the start in the Rochester net, and turned aside 28 of the 33 shots he faced.
