WHL Hat Tricks -- Matthew Savoie

Tough times, these. What with feet of snow falling already (and more set to fall and fall around Buffalo this weekend) along with the Sabres being in a difficult tailspin, I thought I'd inject some good news into this site.

Winnipeg hosted Regina last night in a WHL game. A little deeper dive will show that Sabres hope Matthew Savoie squared off against everyone's hope Connor Bedard in what was certainly Canadian Major Junior Hockey's game of night.

The contest lived up the hype. Winnipeg strode out 9-5 winners, and the ICE got a special night from our Matthew.

Savoie scored three goals and dished out three assists. It was his first career first hat trick.

Bedard wasn't outdone by much. The projected first pick in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft had one goal and two assists while upping his consecutive points streak to 20 games.

And if you think that's all of the story, you'd be wrong. Winnipeg and Savoie host Regina and Bedard on Saturday night. Here's hoping for similar fireworks.
